Amano Chocolate Giveaway

Amano Ocumare 30% milk chocolate

If you only associate American chocolate with gritty Hershey’s bars, you’re in for a big surprise. One of my favorite chocolates in the WORLD is made on a mountain top in Orem, Utah. When Amano debuted two years ago, they only made 70% chocolate, but the bars differed radically because of where the cacao was grown.

Now Amano is making “dark” milk chocolate. This is not your mother’s candy bar. In the U.S., milk chocolate only needs a minimum of 10% cacao solids; Amano’s is 30%. As a result, you have the creaminess of milk chocolate and the complexity of dark.

Amano’s PR people are offering three of their newest bars for free. You can win the limited edition 70% Montanya (notes of grass, apricot kernels and toasted marshmallows), 30% Ocumare (notes of coffee and peaches), and 30% Jembrana. All together, they’re worth $22.

To enter the giveaway, please pay it forward: promise to do a good deed (we’re working with the honor system here) and tell me what kind of chocolate you crave most (milk, dark, or white) in the comments below. Contest ends Fri., Oct. 30 at 9:00 PM EST, just in time for Halloween!

I promise to cook a lunch with the lady who lives on the same floor.
She doesn’t get much company and she likes it.

    I love dark chocolate…

In Orem? Seriously? Having spent quite a bit of time in Orem over the years, I have to say I never thought of it as a place that might produce a great gourmet chocolate bar. Possibly the world’s biggest strip mall, but not chocolate. I am extremely curious to give a try. If I win I would be happy to do a good deed — and I would like Milk Chocolate.

May Canadians enter? I promise to do a good deed (I’m not sure exactly what yet, but I’ll find something as soon as I’m around people again), and I crave dark chocolate most.

I like chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner and of course for dessert. I promise to try to practice patience with all those who drive like frickin’ lunatics.

Too late for the contest, but the Amano bars sound great – really interesting tasting notes for sure. I have yet to taste this chocolate, hope to one day soon for sure. Oh, and as for craving chocolate, that would be dark chocolate for me, 100%. But perhaps that will change once I’ve tasted the dark milk !

Kerrin, I thought I was the only one who liked 100% chocolate. Have you had Pralus’? It’s refreshing and not bitter at all.

Hey there! Oops, actually 100% dark chocolate would be a bit strong for me. I am more of a 60-75 % kinda girl ! And always love my dark chocolate with a little hint of salt. My 100% in the comment above was actually meant to be absolutely without a doubt dark, instead of milk. haha! But I do love Pralus, one of my favorite go-to chocolates for a long time now. And ironically enough, his Melissa bar is the only milk chocolate I actually really enjoy. 😉 But I might have to try the 100% dark, I’m always curious about new bars and love to taste them all… Thanks for the reply.
