I&#039;ve made something similar, but in cupcake format. I didn&#039;t use dates or applesauce though, and it still came out plenty moist. In fact, it&#039;s one of my favourite cupcakes that I&#039;ve made so far. This cake sounds good though it certainly is no Red Velvet cake. You need buttermilk and vinegar to give it that slight tang...that&#039;s where the flavor comes from. This recipe is no where near being a Red Velvet cake, honestly. 

I will take this piece of advice: &quot;Just tell your friends that you made chocolate-raspberry cake.&quot; because if I told them it was Red Velvet cake they&#039;d probably be up in arms!</description>
